IN CASE OF EMERGENCY
Always be careful on the trails. Here are a few measures to help you ski safely:
  • Read the trail "Conditions" on the Club's website or Facebook;
  • Preferably do not ski alone;
  • If you decide to ski by yourself, tell a friend, family or other member of your whereabouts;
  • Have your cellphone with you or ski with a friend with a cellphone;
  • Have a copy of the trail maps (available at the camp) with you at all times;
  • Be aware of which trail you are skiing;

If you have an emergency - accident, fainting, fall, heart problem, lost on the trails at night etc:
  • Discuss with your friend of the severity of the situation;
  • Decide if you are able to continue and get to the nearest parking or if you need to be picked up;
  • If you need help, dial 911;
  • Indicate on which trail you are to the best of your ability and which parking is the closest to you;
  • An ambulance will be dispatched to the nearest parking;
  • Ambulances are not able or equipped to rescue you on the trails, therefore they will need the help of the Cocagne Fire Dept. rescue unit to pick you up;
  • At no time should you try to contact the Fire Dept. directly. You must dial 911 first. Otherwise this will delay the rescue process.
  • The Fire Dept has a copy of our trail maps and they are familiar with the parking locations;
  • The Fire Dept. is equipped with an ATV, with tracks in the winter, that can travel on the trails. See attached photo of a similar vehicle;
  • The ATV is equipped with a stretcher, defibrillator, search light, blankets, oxygen, communication equipment etc;
  • The operators are trained to administer basic first aid;
  • You will be taken to the ambulance by the rescue unit.
